Ok.. So, questions.. What kind of steps do I need to make my wifi connexion safe fromt he public? I have enabled WEP 64bit. Should I do the 128? Or is 64 Ok? I highly doubt there is anybody in my neighborhood that's smart enough, let alone has the resources to crack it. Anything else I should consider?

Ok, so I've got this nifty new wireless card. How common are HotSpots? Does it just depend on your area?. I plan on making a trip to Maryland from here (Louisiana) in Feb. Any chance I'll find a few on the way you think?

Pugsley, how many did you find on your last outing?

Just curious, no mal intent here guys. :)

disable the broadcast SSID and enable the MAC address thing that you need to type in the MAC addresses that can access the WiFi

What he said. If you disable SSID then you're not broadcasting your existence to the universe.

Well i was using one of my antennas and was getting all sorts of stuff. Was about a mile from the collage campus and all sorts of stuff started popping up... 60% was wide open.. 60% of that was stock out of the box, and the others had some changes made but were still acessable and about 10-15 were actually locked down.

Just depends where you are and what antenna your using.
