Hello All...

Having some problems getting this router setup. I have the modem going to the router, then the router going to a 5 port switch. I've been unable no matter what I tried to get this to work. All of my LEDs light up when it is connected. The activity light blinks in sync w/the cable modem. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. I've followed all of the quick start guides and user manuals I've route and no luck.

Is there anybody else out there who's on RR that might know what I'm missing? I'd appreciate any and all help. Talent and I will probably just continue to try and figure this out and I've googled my ass off with no luck..

It works just fine using ICS.. I was just looking for the security of the router. I've been searching for more and more info today and I still haven't had any luck.

With cable it's plug and play - nothing to setup.

HOWEVER, an often overlooked issue is that you MUST power off the modem before plugging it into the router, then connect it to the router and power it back on (don't use any power switch on it - physically disconnect it from the wall outlet).

You must do this whenever you connect a cable modem to a device with a different MAC address than the device it was connected to before. Cable modems "lock" themselves to the MAC address of the device they're connected to when they're turned on. If it was connected directly to your computer then it's locked to the MAC address of your computer's NIC. You need to reset it so it can lock to the MAC address of the router.

Are an Absolute Genius! Of course that was the one thing (even though they tell you to do it) that I didn't do.. I feel like such a dumb ass.. Next time I'm in FL you and I should have lunch on me!

Since this is a 1 port router, should I go ahead and hook it up to the switch and let the switch handle all the rest of the work? Will I notice any improvement over leaving ICS enabled and just running it this way and using the router for secruity? Just curious what the best way to go is..

Yes, just connect it to a switch and let the router do all the work. No sense in using ICS.
