ICS on a network with a router?

Post by DoPeY5007 »

Ok I have a little problem. Since I moved I can't run a cable ( yet, still un-pack`n ) and I need to have 3 PC's to have net access @ my desk. So, I have one wireless NIC. So that Nic is now on the PC that is really my server ( DC, HTTP, some file ). There is a wired Nic in it as well. So I tried to enable the Windows ISC and it came up with an error that there is already a shared connection ( the router ). So I was like, ok, I figured that would happen.

So then I try to bridge the two connections, once I did that the server nor my PC could see the internet. BUT, my PC did pick up my IP address that the router gives me ( my router can reserve an IP for a Mac address )

so, my question is, is there a way I can share my internet though the one PC from the wireless card, I really don't have the cash right now to get two more WiFi Nics or a WiFi Bridge.

I just wanna use what I got, can it be done?

My guess is that your (wireless?) router assigned the IP 192.168.0.1 for itself as gateway, and that's the IP that Windows ICS uses for it's NIC to the local network as gateway. You could check if you can set your router to a different IP, like 192.168.100.1 ... just an idea, never tried it.

Or try the bridging again, this link will help you to set it up (Win XP), more howtos are right here. I think this would be the better approach.

ok, well, re-tried the bridge a few times, no go.

change the IP of the router to 192.168.0.2 and then re-tried the ICS and got the same error

Network Connections

An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled.

Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled.

A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address

that is required for automatic IP addressing.

Did you try to set your router IP to a different network? Like the 192.168.100.1 that I mentioned before?
I can only guess that the bridging might not work because both networks are the same (192.168.0.0) ...
