My older SBC wireless access point and card doesn't exactly have the best range and I often have poor connectivety when the laptop's only 2 rooms away SO I'm thinking about getting a newer setup with MORE POWER!

I have had very good luck with Dlink. I have tried linksys and netgear and 3com and one or 2 others, and dlink has had the best range and speed for me. and my house is horrible with transmit ions. I don't know if its led paint or what.

DLink is my first choice and then 3Com is my 2nd.

Linksys is my LAST choice. However, things may change since Cisco bought them out.

I have a D-Link - the 20 Mbit system. Works well. It's important that you buy a unit with TWO antennas, then orient one antenna horizontally and the other vertically.

It also greatly helps to place the AP as high as possible - top of a china cabinet or bookcase is ideal.

i use the Linksys wireless router and usb network adapter for our laptops. no problems here. i get good connection and speeds from one room, through a couple of walls and all the way into our backyard.

My access point has two antennas BUT it stays on the floor in the TV room as if the wife sees it with its wires, she won't be happy.
Maybe I'll try it in another room first but the one I've got never seems to work well if the lappy's too far away from it.

instead of getting a new set up wny don't you just add a bridge to extend your current?

You can also use the Wireless Ethernet Bridge as a kind of "cable-less cable" to connect remote areas together. Maybe Shipping is all the way across the warehouse from Receiving. Or maybe you want to set up a home office in your detached garage. With a Wireless Ethernet Bridge in the garage, and another one (or a Wireless Access Point) in the house, you're connected – with no cabling hassle.

u wanna buy a dlink 614+?

Those sell for $19 after rebates at BB now.
I bought the kit I linked above for a good price at Newegg.com BUT the SW for the access point is for NT 4.0 only and fails to work in Win2K. I don't see a cure at SMCs websight listed so I've e-mailed thier tech support and I'll give it a couple more days or it goes back.
