could be almost anything...

web pages (servers) that you visit may keep open connections for a short amount of time, programs such as kazaa and other file sharing apps, online games, instant messaging programs, etc...anything that uses TCP or UDP.

a failed tracert back to the originating IP isn't surprising either--just means that the target has a firewall/router configured to reject pings (as you should too...) or unknown external traffic.

of course, there is always the chance that a script kiddie is scanning your pc, but most likely it's just your firewall software being too anal. check the settings and maybe crank it down a notch to prevent EVERYTHING from popping up a warning.

edit---> to see active connections (if your firewall can't show you), go to a command prompt and type NETSTAT /?. that will show you the options for checking your network activity and open connections.

Curious I geuss.

I did the netstat and tcp udp show the system I am on and nothing else. I have the net runing, so I kinda expect somthing for that.
