This website will bring your ad blocker to it's knees...

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Steve Gibson tweeted this link today. Nothing nasty on there, it's a legit site, but it's gotta be the most obnoxious ad-laden page on the internet. This will make your eyes bleed. A bazillion animationed ads. Flash back 20 years to Geocities... :bang

Ad blockers won't stop any of it because it's all served from the primary domain.

Steve's point is, that if ad blockers continue to be popular (the Ad-Pocalyse as it's being called) then sites will start finding ways to host ads from their own domain. No way to block that, without blocking the whole site.

You might think that would be a good thing, and it would be IF sites took control of their own ads responsibly instead of allowing 3rd parties to place anything they wanted to on their sites, but most sites don't have the staff to manage their own ads. Instead, some ad companies are already starting to request that web sites setup PROXIES to their ad servers to make it look like the ads are coming from the primary domain. And current ad-blockers can't do anything about that.
