File Transfer from US to Asia

what is the simplest yet fastest way to transfer files from PC to PC if the other person was in Asia?

to be specific i have a cousin with a DSL connection in the Philippines who wants to transfer various files to me ranging from 100mb-1gb in size. i'm pretty sure FTP is the best way. only problem is i have zero experience in setting a FTP server up.

Also if i do get this up and running what kind of transfer speeds can one expect considering he's on DSL in Asia and i'm on Cable here in the states?

the speed will depend on his upload.

You can use AIM or something like that
