Stupid and easy question but are the drivers installed for it? Not all on-board NICs have drivers in the included motherboard driver install.

This adapter was there, and now it's gone? First go into BIOS and make sure the adapter is enabled. Then check the Windows Device Manager and see if it's listed in Network Adapters, or as an "Other" device. If it's listed as an other then you need to install the drivers for it. Download the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website.
