Windows (Case)

Post by Pugsley »

Ok. im in the middle of a monitor mod... and am wondering, not having ever installed a windo kit before, what holds the windo in? and can it fall out?

Also, what thickness are most windows? and where can i get the molding stuff if i decide to make my own window? That should about cover it.

the window rests in the window molding. Then you put the locking strip into the molding to hold the window in place
http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/pr ... ponent.htm

So as long as you dont overcut the window hole, and you put the locking strip in, then the window wont fall out unless its pushed on with quite a bit of pressure
Gone for good. But never say never

I thought about modding a monitor case, but just to add fans and keep it cooler than convection will.

Post a pic when done. Is there anything to see in there besides dust? I know it would be cool to have a window if they used all those glowing tubes like in the old TV days.

Anyway, to put in the window you could also glue it in from underneath with an RTV sealer, then drill some little holes for nice looking screws of some type. Like I'm gonna do with my tower mod if I can get back to work on it :) I'll be using pewter eagles with screwbacks. Can get something similar at a leather supplie shop.

If it's a black case then brass would look nice with it. Nice thing about screws, nothing pops out a window unless it actually breaks!! Just be sure the screws or nuts if used inside can't come loose and fall in. Sparks looks nice for awhile, but they don't last and niether will the monitor :)
