Making CD's with name lists?
I have a Plextor CD/RW. I am very new to this CD burning business.
I notice when I make CD's from MP3's on my harddrive, the song and artist names don't display on the copy when done.
Is this just the way it is? As I am going through the process of copying, I get a display showing the song names, artists. It even allows me to type names in that may me blank. Yet when copy is finished and then played, just the Track 1, 2, 3 etc. shows.
Sure would be nice to be able to have the names show up.
I know about the CD/DB function where you can put in a store bought CD and through the internet it will load the songs titles, artists but this is not what I'm talking about.

Use CD-Text
I am using WinOnCD 3.8 and I believe if you burn using "CD-Text - Digital Audio" the names are burned. This is a very powerful program and I believe the CD Text feature is fairly new.

I have that CD Text option in the Plextor software but it does nothing. Put the names in and when the CD is copied, the names don't show. Sure would have figured that this would be possible.
Other than that, the Plextor software works really good. The only thing I haven't tried yet is copy a program or game CD. From what I hear, that's where there maybe some problems because of Copy Protection.
Does any have any examples/experiences of just what programs/games this type of software will and won't copy? I would like to know just how far the software will go before needing to spend $50 on CloneCD.
I have downloaded CloneCD shareware but haven't tried it yet. I hear you have to un-install any previous CD copying software before running it so I probably won't try it until I have a need to.
For example, would my Plextor software copy a Windows ME or say Q3 CD for backup purposes or would I need CloneCD for that?

Actually, you would need CloneCD for both of those. I recently backed up WinME and I had to do it with CloneCD with special settings acquired from the CloneCD Database.
CloneCD is a great program and well worth $50, however full versions are extrememly easy to find out there.

Here's an easier way.
If you use Winamp it can connect to the internet and find the names for your tracks when you play them. Once it has downloaded the list they stay in memory and you don't have to dl again. I don't know how it works, only that it does.

Hey Mike if you want the song titles and artist names to show up on the computer they have to be typed in on a home made cd. If you copy a store bought cd they will show up via the cddb.
Don't forget as well that the cd player ini file will only hold the first 255 songs or so and this includes every time you add a cd or rip one using the cddb for titles.
However if you want them to show up on a home or car stereo, then the stereo unit must support cd text and the burner the cd's are written on must also support cd text.
Plus you must check off cd text when burning and write in dao mode. I hope this makes sense.

i don't remember how i did it, but after i burned a cd in easy cd creator (audio), i had some option to output my cd info to the cdplayer.ini file... and it worked. Note, i'd have to have that particular ini file backed up or else it's all gone.
Haven't tried it again, since i never really used it anyhow.. that's what mp3's are for, and well, in my car, i frankly don't care
