But doesn't that just take all the connectors that were on the PSU and move them to a bar that I now would have to figure out where to place in my case? Plus I'd have to still run cables from the bar to devices.
What am I not seeing?

If you had enough room, you could tuck it in an empty bay, but I rather do it myself.

It moves all the connections to a centralized location and behind the backplane under the mobo. According to the article it attaches with magnets.

That's really clean. I'll have to keep this in mind if I need a new PSU.

I made my own version about 10 years ago. It's a facebook image, I'm not sure it'll be visible to people not logged in.

I can see it so you don't need faceboog. How'd you make that if you don't mind? 3d printing wasn't a home game back then.

That's really cool. It also reminds me I don't miss molex connectors.

I had several dead hard drives & CD-roms that I de-soldered the connectors from. I then glued them to a piece of plastic and did a bunch of soldering. Then hot glued them all in and covered in tape for aesthetics. I'm still using it. It's very handy for things like lights, card readers, fans, fan controllers, you get the idea.

Nice video here that explains it in more detail. They're also doing their own take on what that new Intel PSU spec does. The PSU itself only generates 12 Volta DC. The distribution bar not only has all the connectors, but all the electronics to derive the other voltages from 12 volts is in there too, which reduces the size of the one big cable linking them, and improves efficiency.

I really will look into this for my next build. Especially once it's been proven for a while.
