Every time I look at an upgrade (which I really don't need) I run up against the high cost of DDR4 and getting a new mobo. I sure wish GPUs were cheaper, I'm fine with a 1080 but I was planning on upgrading my wife to a 1070 from her 970 and that ain't happening for a while.

So why are video cards so expensive now?

Crypto currency miners are buying up all the high-end cards.

I'm just too lazy to upgrade. I know the new generation is much faster than my 2500K and I'd love an M.2 ssd but I can't be arsed to build and install everything.

you can get close to 1000 for a used1080 now, 1080TI going for up to 1500 on ebay

I went from a 970 to a 1070, and it's not a huge upgrade. If your gaming on a large resolution display it's more visible, but anything like 1920x1080 and under, it's like 10% performance difference. If I did not have the 1440 monitor, I would have been pissed at the price/boost ratio.

Of course I got the 1070 on release, so avoided the current madness.

The 10xx cards are better at 1440.

I've been rolling with a HD280 for years now and just haven't found a game that brings it to it's knees. I would have upgraded this year, but all the miners are pushing the prices to silly territory.
