It appears that what mechanics fought for against automobile manufactures is now becoming a fight for console repair shops.

This is just stupid and I bet this rarely happens:

Specifically, they said the information would help “sidestep consoles’ digital protection assets” and “invite unethical individuals to break the law and encourage widespread theft of video games and proprietary information.”

It's stupid and it's happening in a lot of industries. Farmers are livid that they can't easily fix their own tractors or take them to a mechanic. Companies like John Deere are aggressively fighting to keep repairs at their own dealers, and they're using the DMCA to keep anyone from tampering with the computerized electronics.

Sony tried this BS with their computers (maybe that's why no one bought them?). They refused to provide diagrams or service manuals unless you were an authorized repair center, and the warranty was void if someone else worked on it.

That's all I hear about. Farmers love the tech when it works but absolutely hate it if it breaks because there is no way around it. Alot of them have been putting off new equipment for this exact reason.
