After seeing this, I'm mad I didn't think of it. However, I think it could be refined to be cheaper. Imagine a small projector that connects with your existing IOTs that projects your favorite character on the wall or casts to a monitor. With multiple projectors or monitors this avatar could follow you around the house.

It is a bit weird. The "can you come home early, I have a surprise for you stuff" could get interesting.

I can picture getting that message and hurrying home. Once you step through the door it's so cold you can see your breath. You see your waifu and she tells you goodbye as the Roomba attacks you.
