I've been loosely following all of this because it's cool and interesting, but more and more I am running across reviews of Vive stuff where they say the Oculus has been on the shelf for a while since it isn't "fun."

The rift was just a visual device where this thing seems to have 2 "hands" that can interact with the environment. And the Vive seems to have some better software.

I think so too. They screwed up by not having the controllers ready on launch and then not shipping to their backers on time. The walled garden they tried to impliment with the games hurt them also. As I've said before, I have little interest in VR at the moment. Most of it looks dull. Is like a simple headset that gives me the feel of a giant monitor. However, I'd like to have on that tracks head movement in racing games and Trucker Simulator.

I think their priorities shifted after the Facebook purchase. I think Facebook sees it more as a social tool than a gaming system and that's where they're going with it, for better or for worse.

I think augmented reality would be better for social networking. It will be a hard sell either way because why do I need to wear this heavy ugly headset when I can just look at my phone.

I think that the "walled garden" will bite them in the rear. Vive has Steam in its corner which is a huge plus. If Vive sales stay fairly strong, I could see them putting the current kit on sale right before Oculus comes out with its controllers.
