Why the fax machine isn’t quite dead yet

I still use the fax a lot. 90% of my business clients prefer I invoice them via fax. I also refuse to send anything containing personal info via email - even when I can talk the other person into using a password protected ZIP file.

I work for a biotech company and the majority of our customers fax their purchase orders or want a fax confirmation.

We still get a lot of faxes, since we have a few Probate & Estate Planning attorneys. Their clients tend to be older and don't like email, hence they fax. We have a fax server onsite which routes the faxes to the appropriate person, depending on the number they faxed to. You just receive a PDF in your Outlook Inbox.

One of the companies I work for is a big fax service provider. Fax isn't going anywhere. and yes it's huge in the medical field.

PLEASE tell me your attorneys don't email documents in the clear.

It drives me crazy. During the sale of some commercial property we owned in Miami, I had attorneys emailing all kinds of documents containing private and privileged information in the clear. I couldn't even get them to use an encrypted zip file.

Attorneys aren't going to be able to get away with it for long. They're now under the same HIPAA regulations that doctors are. They need to start using secure document services like SecureFile. Oh and that little boiler plate at the bottom stating you shouldn't read this if it's not addressed to you? I'm sure that stops Russian hackers from reading your documents.... not.

It's when dealing with idiots like that, that I mainly rely on a fax. Not likely anyone is tapping my phone line (they are welcome to) and as long as they dial the right phone number, it's certainly a hell of a lot more secure than sending it in the clear in an email.

when we bought are new place 98 % of the sale was done via Securefile. only the final papers were sent via the usps and the keys for the property. all funds were sent via wire transfer. not like we had any experience buy property. when we bought are main home it was like 30 years ago and that was a land contract with someone we knew . we just signed a single piece of paper and the give him a personal check for the down payment. all was done at a Restaurant over dinner . can't buy or sell a home that way today even if it is a land contract sale.

Same here - using DocuSign. For final papers, I have to fly up on July 8th to sign papers July 9 in person.
