My daughter had an e-Machine laptop with 2 USB ports - both broken. Did a search for replacement pieces and found some from China. So I bought 4 of them for $10 shipped. Removed the motherboard which was a PITA, and it took me about 15 minutes to remove the old USB headers from the motherboard. Thank god for a solder sucker. Slapped the new ones in and both are working again.

It's an awesome feeling when you fix something like that.

Congratulations. Laptops are a PIA in work on. I had to completely disassemble my wife's laptop earlier this year to replace a fan. It's so rewarding to put everything together and have it power on and boot.

It seems that just about any repair on a laptop requires complete disassembly unfortunately. I've done more that I care to recall.
