Since it has a very simple command set, it's a nice computer to learn assembler on. There is also a huge library of open source programs for it.
These things (the originals) were used well into the late 80s as dedicated controllers for ballistic missile early warning radar sites, and other critical infrastructure.
They were often found in accounting departments of medium sized businesses in the 70s.
