anyone running ssd drives in RAID?

i've thought about going with a RAID config for a while with two or more SSD and now that prices are dropping, i'm looking into it again.

I just don't see the point. A good quality single SSD (like a Samsung 840) can come very close to saturating a SATA bus so I don't see how RAID 0 brings anything to the table other than increased failure risk.

Yeah, if you have a VERY specific need for very high speed writes, like professional video editing, then maybe, but otherwise no.

I've been running a RAID-0 configuration for a while now. It is actually noticeably quicker than the single drive I was using. I do, however, have a pair of 6Gb/s SATA ports. Not to say that I was annoyed with how slow one SSD was. Just noticeable. As for being failure prone, I back-up the death out of my stuff.

my mobo has 2x6Gbps sata raid ports (currently unused) for this, i just never put anything on them. my single ssd is plenty fast for day-to-day, but when working in photoshop and large panoramic files, there is still load delay and other disk induced latency. not a huge deal since it's only periodic work, but you know...always wanting more.

Well if you're that serious a Photoshop user, then yeah you'll probably see a benefit. The big improvement with SSD RAID is write speed. PS uses really large temp files.
