I'm sort of due for a refresh on my main rig and I was hoping the new stuff from intel would drop the prices on the old stuff. I generally but 1 gen old.

The prices for the new Haswell rigs are really high since you need DDR4. I've been reading the reviews and looks like $1k for just a mobo, cpu and ram. Yikes. The only need I have for high end is for gaming, so I guess I'll just see if any of the socket 1150 cpus come down accordingly. Kind of doubt they will since the devil's canyon line is probably binned chips and most people can't afford to move up to Haswell-E.

I always buy old used stuff. Buying pc parts new is like buying a new car. As soon as you drive off the lot, you lose thousands. With pc parts, they are almost obsolete a year later, which is why I always buy used parts.

It's pricey and you won't see much of a difference unless your computer is very old. The best refresh for most PCs is an SSD. For gaming, I'd put most of the money into a video card.

I'd go for last gen. DDR4 is too pricey and there's little benefit
