Mouse issues

Ok. I have a Dell laptop that I have been using as my main computer for some time. Lately the wireless mouse I use stopped working. The touch pad works. I tried the wireless mouse in another computer and it works. Thumb drives work in the laptop and I even tried another wireless mouse with same results. The computer has 4 USB ports and they all respond the same way. I get the notice of new driver being installed and the USB plug and unplug sounds. Now funny, when I plug in a wired mouse it works.
Only wireless mouse do not work.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried to update the drivers for the mouse? Sometimes Windows updates will throw off peripheral drivers off. State what operating system and mouse your are using so that the folks here can help better. Good luck resolving the issue.

Windows 7 and Logitech M510 mouse same thing happens with microsoft cordless mouse. Right now working with generic corded mouse.

Is there an error for the mouse in device manager?
If you installed the driver that came with the mouse I would uninstall it - unless there's some fancy feature in that driver you like, the Windows generic mouse drivers work best.
I would plug the wireless mouse in again, then delete it from the Device Manager. Unplug it and plug it back in which will force a re-install of the generic driver (assuming you uninstalled the factory driver).
I have seen some wireless mice interfered with by the onboard Wifi, but this usually manifests itself as a jittery or laggy mouse during large data transfers over Wifi (like a file download). I've never seen it just stop working.

I have noticed that sometimes Logitech wireless products need to be resynched manually by holding down various buttons. My experience is that they have a relatively short useful life as well. I have a Logitech wireless headset that simply won't connect with my computer, but still works fine on bluetooth with my phone.

Device manager shows no errors. The crazy thing is the mouse works in another computer and a second wireless mouse does the same thing.
Just a thought: Could my USB ports be weak and not providing power for the wireless or are they a work or no work think?

What about looking in Add/Remove programs for mouse software that was installed? If anything is there I would remove it, then as FP suggested, in device manager, delete the mouse then reboot. Then try adding it again so it will install the generic one from microsoft.

I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers. There might have been an associated USB Windows update that caused this issue too.
