Im hoping someone might know and be able to help me here.
A couple months ago I ran across a tec web site that had a custom Recommended gaming computer builder buy low medium and high budget prices.
The systems were updated very often and they would list all specic hardware and price of each- also would give a detailed description why each piece of harware was bought within budget.

Since my crash, lost my bookmarks, anyone know this site?

Tom's Hardware builds low, med, and high end builds but I'm not sure this is what you were looking at before:

I followed their recommendations for a mid-range system.

I think Ars and Anandtech also do system builds. I normally move one generation back on the cpu/mobo to save money, but that can be a pain for future upgrades b/c of the endless socket changes.

Guess it depends on what you want it for but you can build a decent gaming PC rather inexpensively and there are many builds mentioned here throughout the years. I threw one together in August '12 and it plays anything I've run w/o issues. I can't imagine why people (who are tech savvy that is) spend big $$ on gaming rigs made by someone else.
