cpu/mobo upgrade

any recommendations for a low power replacement to my aging E8500 based rig? this is the only pc i leave on 24/7, as it handles my media streaming and video storage. it has been a rock for many years now, but the cpu seems to struggle a bit with some transcoding of videos (via Plex) and pegs at 100% quite often.

You may want to check out the new Haswell based I5 processors. Acording to Anandtech, the 4670 idles ~32w and hovers ~97 under a load. It would be more than enough to handle your transcoding needs. Especially if your software supports multicore rendering.
