Need some help from the Sound Hounds!

My wife does workshops that involve meditations and other stuff and uses a lot of sound. The sound quality needs to be very good. She works anything from 2 or 3 people to a conference room with about 30-40 people. She was invited to do a workshop at a major east coast conference, and the CD boombox from Dollar G ain't gonna cut it :) The best I have ever seen used for work like this is an Ipod in a Bose, which sounded great even outdoors, but I know the Bose is some serious $$. She also wants to have at least limited remote control.

TIA

I asked her to write up her needs/xmas list and here it is:

Wish list

Music storage unit

· holds high quality copies of CD's that have subliminal sounds embedded in them

· holds at least 60 of those CD's

· Small

· lightweight

· 6 hours playtime WITHOUT being plugged in.

Speakers:

· lightweight

· small

· preferably wireless

· quality sound

· reasonable price

· remote control

Miscellaneous

· won't cost me an arm and a let (let's say under about $200/250, if that's even possible?)

· I don't need state of the art, just something that will work, easily and simple cuz I'm technically challenged.

· what is the best file format to save the music in, including the subliminals? (mp3, wav, ?)

· what else do I need to know (info I wouldn't know to ask for cuz I don't know that much about the technical aspects of sound and sound reproduction?)

What I currently own:

· iPad 1 (no wireless)

· iPhone 4

· a lot of CD's

· a VERY old style bulky portable CD player with yuck sound

Well, you can easily load days of music into either your ipad or iphone and then plug it into a boombox.
I've got 2 Sony Xplod's, one at work, one at home and they sound great. They're one of the few boomboxes that have an audio input through an 1/8" stereo miniplug so that's how I wire it to my ipod, sorry no wireless.

The xplod is heavy, bulky and my wife thinks it's ugly but it's sound quality for a smallish and inexpensive boombox makes up for it.

As for this guys review: "The display is too small and the inline to listen to Ipods etc not loud at all very low sound." I can tell you that he's incorrect and must have had some setting wrong. I've also had my xplods for years, never an issue and the one at work is on 5 days a week, 9 hours per day.
I forgot that it does include a wireless remote but an ipod needs to be wired to it.
Walmart also sells them for $117.

Its not much of what she is asking for, But it is a good basic portable PA system. Now you could add a wireless mic and other stuffs to it to make it better.

Yeah, it seems like Sony's about the only company making boom boxes anymore. After that, you have to consider other options. I echo the MP3 player/Phone & boom box with input idea.

thanks everybody. looks like we'll probably go with the bose dock and an ipod, 1 gen back if we can. the boombox just doesn't fit the "decor" of what she's doing, and is large. everything thing needs to fit in a small rolling briefcase or suitcase.

btw, I did see a Dewalt job site boombox in a pawn shop a while ago. looked pretty rugged.

Home Depot sells those Dewalt boomboxes but I doubt they have an aux. input jack. Few do.

Another option is to use a small PC speaker system with a sub. I use a couple of those around the house too and you can then just plug an ipod into that. It's more portable than the Sony boombox.
