I just bought this mobo used: Asus P5Q-E. The memory requirements according to their web site:
1200 ???
1066 (PC2-8500)
800 (PC2-6600)
667 (PC2-5300)
If I go to Crucial, they recommend the DDR2-667 which is a 8 GB kit. Why would they select the slower memory?

Did you click the link on the Crucial page that shows you ALL memory for that mobo, not just recommended? The faster memory is probably there.

As to why it's not recommended, Crucial tends to recommend the best RAM for stability. I'd just go.with the fastest Crucial offers for that board that isn't premium priced high performance Ram like the Ballistx.

+1 on what FP said. i also have had nothing but problems with Ballistx ram. at work, dozens of sticks went bad over a period of about six months. not sure if it was a bad batch or what, but no problems since moving away from them.

That's Crucial's high-end performance RAM meant for overclocking.
