Got to love it when this happens!
I'm copying pictures for my daughter from my computer and my back up drive. about 1.7 gig to a SD card and the card decides to screw up. loose all the pictures I just spent like 2 plus hours transferring . the photos just vanished went poof on the sd card. i take the card to a back up computer and all i get is do you want to format the sd card.

It can happen sometimes. That is why I tend to avoid buying brands I just do not recognize. My best experiences have been with Kingston, Corsair, and Sandisk Flash memory.
But really, 2 hours? That is one mighty slow card!

USB 1.1? Yeah, I've had my share of USB sticks flake out on me. Even name brands. Anymore, I consider them about as reliable as floppies.

9 times out of 10 it's not the flash drive/card, it's file system corruption from pulling it out without ejecting it first.
Even though you're SUPPOSED to be able to just pull a flash drive out, it really isn't recommended - especially with large (over 4Gb) drives. I was really happy when Win7 added a much easier to use ejection system (click the removable drive icon, select the drive by name, and click to eject).
A file recovery app would probably recover those photos if you need to. I've had good luck with PhotoRecovery by LCTechnology.

Well, I'm sure a lot of sites will have some really good deals on SD Cards no doubt.
