was a lot cheaper then the retail stores could offer them .
a couple hundred less and offer double memory and storage space as to what was on the shelfs avail by any brand .

That's a pretty lame CPU. If you shop around for sales you can usually find an intel Core i3 system for $400 - 425 which would be much better and last them longer.

Do they have a Sams Club or Costco card? I prefer buying from them whenever possible because they both have a generous 90 day return policy. I usually see at least one $400 HP or Dell Core i3 system at Sams.

I'd recommend this for $400 if they can spare the money. It's also from the business division instead of the Home division. Dell home tech support is awful.

Only a 500Gb drive, but it's a Core i3, and the Vostro uses slightly better components than the Inspiron. Also much less crapware pre-installed:
