I'll wait until it is more readily adapted across all platforms.

I don't want to get stuck with another set of cables and peripherals that are useless to me today like FireWire.

I can potentially see this technology being adapted soon by Music, video and Photoshop users that use large media files on external storage devices.

With USB 3.0 there is no need for Thunderbolt anymore. Only Apple has jumped on the bandwagon but in a stupid way. Their Thunderbolt video displays CAN'T be connected via any other connector. Stupid.

i think the expandability is good, but the cost of all the cables alone would be ridiculous.
you end up with the ability to attach:
•Five devices and two Thunderbolt-based displays
•Six devices and one Thunderbolt-based display
•Six devices and one display via mini-DisplayPort adapter
•Five devices, one Thunderbolt-based display, and one display via mini-DisplayPort adapter
