Picked one up to replace my 8Gb pocket flash drive and performed the same case hack to transplant it into one of my old JumpDrive cases that I love that I documented here: http://pcabusers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47940
This new drive is SMOKING fast - even on a USB 2.0 connection. It used to take a few minutes to sync my old flash drive, but this one just syncs in a few seconds on a normal USB 2.0 port.
On a USB 3.0 port it's very fast. Check out these specs:
Max Read (USB 3.0) 80MB/sec
Max Write (USB 3.0) 40MB/Sec
That's VERY fast for a flash drive.
BTW, you may be tempted to save a few bucks and get the smaller and cheaper 16 or 8Gb versions but you'd be losing a LOT of performance. Due to the way flash drives are designed, you get more throughput out of larger drives. The specs for the smaller ones aren't so impressive:
16Gb:
Max Sequential Read Speed (USB 3.0) = 79 MB/s
Max Sequential Write Speed (USB 3.0) = 21 MB/s
8Gb:
Max Sequential Read Speed (USB 3.0) = 70 MB/s
Max Sequential Write Speed (USB 3.0) = 13 MB/s
I also picked up a couple of two port USB 3.0 cards for my main rig and my workbench rig since I now have several 500Gb portable USB 3.0 hard drives lying around that I use for business. I also bought extension cabled to bring the jack around to the front:
Rosewill 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Card Model RC-505

Rosewill Model RCAB-11030 3 ft. USB3.0 A Male to A Female Extension Cable
