I need to find a dvd drive (could be cdrom I guess) that can keep up with my plexor 16x recorder so I can copy disk-to-disk at full speed. Anyone have any suggestions?

I hear those Kenwood 72x True-X CD-ROMS are pretty dang fast. I have a Pioneer 105s (16x/40x) which I think is real fast, though I don't have a burner or anything so I don't know how well it'll do for ya.

well if you are just going for another cd rom get another plextor

personally i have a Kenwood 72x and it is fast as hell. It should easily be able to keep up with the plex.

72x isn't reliable enough or high quality enough for this type of thing. 72x maybe fast for somethings, but everything about them sucks aside for them being quiet.

I disagree. Kenwood is kinda like Abit if you ask me. The people that get good ones and get them working get them working great! Then there are those with DOA or defective drives/mobos with all kinds of problems.

Yep My Kenwood 72X works great other than not being able to read some burned CDRs. I found that it was a certain type of CDR I was buying. Bought a different kind and all was fixed. I think they were Maxell and the kind I am using now are el' cheapo Verbatim from SAM'S. 100 pack without cases for $34. What do you know....sometimes cheaper is better.

Go with a Pioneer 115 DVD either slot load or try whatever your fancy if you don't want to get another Plextor. The Kenwoods are hit and miss as stated above but they are LOUD. Pioneer 115 and Plextor 16X/40X are a great match.

If you have any plans of making direct copies of CD-ROMs, you need a second drive. Finally pricing on these has started coming back down. Pioneer has the fastest drive on the market, and if you shop around you should be able to find the Slot-load version which is supa-geek coo'.
