upgraded my main rig

Post by b-man1 »

...with a SSD drive for the boot/apps drive. i used the process outlined by FP in a previous thread:

http://pcabusers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50570

the process worked perfectly and performance is significantly better now. the SSD is replacing an older 150GB raptor (no slouch by itself). this is mainly a photoshop CS5 rig for me, so the extra speed really shines in that app.

the only thing i had to do different was actually initiate the Acronis restore from within Windows and not via a boot CD. i couldn't get my version of Acronis to boot properly for some reason (Home 2010). i tried the 2011 version as well, but no luck. i just installed it in the "throw away" install of W7, then initiated the C:\ restore. it prompted to reboot, ran the task outside of W7, and that was that. the entire restore took <10 min for the ~40GB of C:\ data i have.

thanks for the consolidated process, FP! :chug

a 2nd hand crucial c300 256GB. a few quick tests and it maxes around 235MB write / 375MB read using ATTO.

for what it's worth, the windows experience index score went from a 5.5 to 7.9....my trusty 'ol 512MB Radeon 4850HD is holding up the rear with a 7.3 lol
