1 - do you refill your old ones
2 - buy brand new factory ink cartridges buy the maker of your printer.
3 - buy refilled ink cartidges from a company or shop that sells them.
4 - buy printer ink cartridges from a company that sells compatable cartages for your printer.

4 from Amazon. A pack of 5 with chips costs a little more (~$20) than just ONE OEM cartridge from BB or Office Depot (~$13 each). I've never had problems with them and they last just as long too.
My experiences with refilling or those CISs were nightmares IMO, not worth the hassles.

I buy them at Sam's Club. Cheaper than office depot. I NEVER buy refills or off name brands. Yeah you may save money for a while but sooner or later that refill is going to bite you. I've seen many a leaking toner and ink cartridge on service calls. Most of the time the printer is never the same afterwards.

2) I have an HP Photosmart 8450. I buy them directly from HP. They don't charge shipping and include an envelope to send back your used cartridges.

I dont use ink. I have a older HP CLJ4500N. I can find parts on ebay cheap since its outdated. hell even the 8500 that replaced it is old now. But at some point the prices will spike or it will break and i will have to find another printer.
