Anybody a guru on home weather stations?

Got a little $ for xmas and I've been thinkking about getting one - willing to spend up to about $300 for a decent one - my quick research shows that Davis is well regarded

i owned a La Crosse Technology and had bad luck with it . setup didn't last 6 month -year and died ! now the guy next door got one and his is still working last i heard.

looks like the Davis units are the way to go....but....they charge

$150

for a usb dongle so you can run it through your pc....that's a deal breaker for me as a PCA guy....I'm sure that there are at least $2.00 in parts involved....

IMO, these days a mouse click to one of many weather sites is far cheaper, easier and reliable. I could see weather stations back before PCs but not anymore.
