Excellent article, not just about why most PSU reviews are flawed, but it also explains why the quality of your PSU is so important for system stability AND why you can have a "600 watt" PSU that can't actually put out 600 watts.

Long read but a good one.

Oh yeah, can't agree more on this one. I couldn't believe how many great reviews I've seen on PSU's based solely on the fact that it ran a top end PC (sometimes not even that) for a few days. What the heck is that all about. It's like testing a TV & making sure it accepts a cable signal.

Glad to see HardOCP on there recommended list, I believe that they went to great lengths to both show what they do to test above & beyond the ordinary & prove that they actually stick to it. Their commitment also shows in that they fail more than half the ones they test. I also appreciate that they still tell you if it failed that it would still be a good power supply if you only have such-n-such demands.

The Tech Report & Anand also deserve props for putting forth an effort & making the list. I use both for reference as well.

Thank god somebody does it right. I don't know how many supplies I have bought that have had tons of noise when i hooked the scope up to it.

I have had good luck with Rosewill supplies. I did have one blow up... but it did not harm the computer it was connected to. You would turn it on and it would run for about a second then POP blue flash from PSU and then its off. replaced with another and it runs just fine now. That PSU was old and abused.

Yeah I've had pretty good luck with Rosewill as well. Trouble is anyone can make a lemon and some of these companies actually buy some of their PSUs from a someone else and re-brand them.

Yeah, Rosewill doesn't actually make anything. They just buy their stuff, but they stand behind their stuff & generally buy good equipment.
