Just got my 300Gb Velociraptor

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Sexy looking drive with those big heatsinks.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to order a new PC or just install Win7 on my existing righ, but I went ahead and ordered it the Velociraptor because either way, I'll be using it as the boot drive.

Running Spinrite level 2 on it now to exercise it and test it.

So jealous (which is funny considering my 3 15,000rpm RAID0 setup). One of these days I'm gonna have a pair of these. Let us know if it's quiet. That's oddly important to me in a fast drive.

I don't expect it to be very quiet (my Raptor is pretty noisy) but I actually didn't notice how loud it was when I set it up running on Spinrite. Wasn't loud enough to attract my attention anyway. I'll take a good listen tonight and let you know.

Yeah, I've experienced the regular Raptors & consider their seek noise to be a bit high. However, the above mentioned drives (Fujitsu 15,000rpm) are mostly silent for me (both seeking & idling), so that's my new standard. They are just friggen hot though. Can't barely touch them & they are well ventilated.

Thanks for the reassurance nexus.
