my intel 6600 unit seems to bit the dust.the onboard video took a crap. the board didn't come with a slot for a real video card replacement . do to tight $$$$ its going to be a couple of weeks before i can rebuild or replace.
i'd like to get your imput as to what to build or buy .the unit still was running IDE hard drives as my main and slave. I'vd had the unit sitting for weeks now .today it was a damp wet day so i put it on the work bench. it been there so long i forgot why i pulled the unit . this tells me i really dont need a power house any more . hell im not even gaming any more at all .?

I would get an inexpensive motherboard and video card.

I assume that the processor is still good. If so, I'd just find a mobo with built in video & call it good. If you get the bug again, then you can slap a video card in if you feel like it.
Here's a good choice:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813135232
Built in video/audio/TWO IDE ports (getting rare these days). No negative reviews out of 34 (that's unheard of on Newegg). Free shipping & a rebate if you go for those things.

Oh crap, I just looked again & I may have done you wrong. It's only showing 1 IDE port. The other was a floppy (sure looked like IDE the first time). Hope that doesn't mess things up.

worst case scenario you could get a controller card with an ide port. (as long as the board has a free slot of course) I know you can pick up a cheap one at newegg for around $15...

Glad to hear it worked out. I've run into more bad motherboards in the last 5 years than ever (from pretty much every manufacturer). It's actually getting kind of annoying.
