Printer hook up through USB and Ethernet?

I have an HP Photosmart 8450 that has both USB and Ethernet capabilities. Is it possible to have the printed hooked up to my computer via USB and have it hooked up to my router at the same time? I wondering if there is any harm in doing it. The reason I'd like to do this is because I currently have it shared through my Vista OS and I ofter boot into XP. I want my wife to be able to print regardless of which OS I'm in. I also want to retain the use of the media card reader that's built into the printer.

Thanks.

On most HP printers you can do this without a problem. You just have to try it. Wouldn't hurt to google it and see if anyone else has done it.

I just tried it. It seems to be working with no ill effects. A google search turned up dry for me. I did find that you must disconnect the USB, connect the Ethernet, turn on the printer, and then plug in the USB. I first tried to just plug in the Ethernet with the USB connected and the printer off. The printer would not turn on until I unplugged the USB. It's fine now with both cables plugged in.
