would you fix this?
i recently gave 20 bux to a lady for a sony vaio 1.8 ghz dual core 1gb ddr2 mem with built in wireless a sd and mem stick reader whose boyfriend threw and broke the screen and dvd drive. i was going the strip it and part it out but it has a 15 pin vga port it posts and boots into vista. ive had it running stuff for about 8 hours now hasnt done anything flaky at all. i see why ppl hate vista i hate it now too. i killed aero it works better now but still slow. i can get the screen and the cd drive off ebay for 140 for both. it has xp drivers available also. it was made in 2007 so its not even that old. its a vaio vgn-n325e widescreen. so im wondering if it would be a better idea to fix it
it seems rock stable and no bad sectors on the hdd.

Yeah, fix it. Though screens aren't for the faint of heart. They usually require half disassembling the laptop. However, if you have balls of steel, then why not. If you're really lucky, you can find someone who has the LCD still mounted in the bezel, that'll save some work. I have one compaq laptop whos screen can't be removed without literally destroying the bezel (they used an aluminum sticker to hold the surrounding trim), once removed it it was so messed up (I was gentle too) that I couldn't reuse it. However, most laptops just use screws.

so the old light breaking and being powered up probly killed the inverter you think? i stuck a probe on the wires and there is juice there nothing on the high voltage end though. i ordered an inverter anyway i hope that fixes it.

well the inverter did it!! its running like a swiss watch. now i intend to ditch vista and make use of those xp drivers on sonys site. it runs super slow with vista still after i turned off aero it has a gig of ram which xp should fly on. ill leave the recovery partition maybe in case i upgrade the memory.
