There are people who sell just keys for laptops and they're cheap, easy to replace. I did it years ago with my old Toshiba laptop because the letters wore off on several of them.
Google it but I think I found a guy selling them on Ebay.

not only the keys are off but the metal clip on one key the j key is broken only part of the clip is still there .on the h key the plastic cap key is gone but the whole clip is still in tack. the computer is a gateway 3040gz laptop.im wondering is a replacement keyboard only way to go or will the new keys come with the new clips and just snap in ?

If you get a real OEM you could probably swap the keys.

I just replaced a keyboard on a Dell. I ordered the kb off ebay, it said Dell OEM, but it was an aftermarket. I only needed 1 key replaced, but the aftermarket key was just a little different design. I just put the new kb in and was good to go.
