Hope I made the right choice.

Went from a BFG 8800 gt oc to an ati Radeon HD 4870

I dont understand why a videocard has intergrated audio...I havent kept up with these things...what gives?

also, this is the heaviest videocard I have ever held/had...its HEAVY. Dual slot cooling and its HUGE. Also requires dual pcie power plugs...thats crazy too.

That'll be the next card I get... an ATI 4870. Excellent performance for the price.

It has integrated audio because A, it's a higher end model, and B, it probably has HDMI out. I think anyway...

I'll be upgrading from an X1900GT... so a huge jump for me. Of course, you could sell me your 8800GT XDD

;) I think I will put the 8800gt in the media PC and sell what ever card is in there...6800xt or something sad like that.

Yeah, the audio is part of the HDMI standard. It certainly is a great card. I've got a friend that I set up with a 4850 & he's playing crysis on high & loving it. I'm still stuck with an 8800gs which I just got (not that it's a wimp).

My only complaint with my 4870 is that the default fan speed is too slow, so it's constantly changing speeds. I used ATI Tray Tools to raise the default speed from 23% to 29%.

It's a bit longer then my 7900 GTO was.

it's got integrated audio to simplify pass-through HDMI audio. it's been this way since 3800 series, tmk.

Yeah, integrated audio was just the next logical step. With HDMI being a one cable solution, it enables a simpler all digital connection than what you had to do previously when connecting to a TV.

The HardOCP has an article on this issue here:
