My ISP is offering McAfee Internet Security for free($70 value). I realize Norton IS is a real system hog. Is MIS just as bad or is it worth installing?

Nearly as bad. I would avoid ALL "Security Suites". All you need is a good AV app, not a suite. AVG Free still does a nice job with no bloat.
