i called my local computer supply shop yesterday looking for a mb for a friend computer . and im kind of good friends with the tech there. well he told me there getting out of the parts end of computers. they for the time being order me what parts i need if i ask .but for the most part they are getting out of hard parts. and will be doing mostly service work .he also told me most the supply shops around here will be doing the same soon or have. saying 85 % or better of the income is from service .and they are telling clients to do as we have. to call Dell if they are wanting a new computer . they just cant compete price wise anymore. not with dell selling a whole rig with a new flat panel lcd for under $500. he saids he get the clients back after there one year warrientys are up. and handle there software problems at $$$$. and not have to worry about dealing with RMA of parts .or comparability problems anymore . he said were going to see more and more of this going on nationally .were the only way to get hardware will be from the large B & M like frys or online from new egg and computer geeks !

Yeah, I don't really have anything in my area. TCWO wasn't so bad, until the big fiasco that finished them. Most of my parts come from Newegg, with the exception of things like fans where SVC is a good place to go.

Heck, I don't even build computers anymore, except for myself. The money really is in the service. I've made more in repairing Dell computers than I ever did building them.

Also, you gotta admit that anyone building computers is mostly buying online anyhow. It's just not worth it for a shop to try to stay alive by stocking stuff that only occasionally sells & becomes obsolete so quick that they have do do clearances weekly.

I can see this happening. Local stores are always so overpriced compared to Newegg or other online stores. It's really just the Novice user or those in a bind that buy local now I think.
I needed a Flash drive, Local store was nuts like 1 gig for $25 and so was Wal-mart. I made do and now just got my 4gig Corsair from newegg and it cost me a total of $19.99. Free shipping and sale $5 discount.

ALSO, this Flash drive came with a USB extension cable, NICE, and a lanyard to wear it as necklace. Local stores drives were just plain flash drives only.

I just bought parts to build a new system here from the egg, really I probably should have just bought a Dell myself, but I still like building and swapping stuff.

After I get this system running I'll figure up what it cost me total, then lookup a Dell with near same specs, then probably cry an hour LOL

But I got some good stuff (I think) so maybe it will work out in my favor a little.
