burner bad?

Post by blade_146 »

Ive noticed lately that anytime I try to burn a data cd it never burns right. Itll go thru the burning and then sit and spin up and down for a while then error. Music cd's burn fine. Seems weird to me. Im using nero 5 if that helps. What the heck would cause this?

Nero 5? That's pretty outdated. I'd be using at least Nero 6 (what I use). Nero 7 is out but I don't like it and you only need it for Vista.

ANYWAY yeah, could be a failing drive. Could also be a dirty lens. Try a lens cleaning disc.

You could also see if there's a new firmware update for the drive.

What OS are you running? Versions before Nero 6 shouldn't even work on Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

im running xp with sp3. ive tried 3 different kinds of disks recently but they all do the same thing. Music cds are fine but data cds are garbage. Just for shits and giggles I went an ordered a new dvd burner. Figured Ive put it off long enough anyway. So you think i should try a newer version of nero or a different program all together. Heck I went as far as to slap in an old plextor scsi burner i had and nero doesnt even see it

Hrmm well after some diggin around in the old cd pile i found a copy of nero 6.6. Seems as tho the 5 yr old plextor still burns a top but the lite on is the bad egg. Tried one in both and figured it out. Thanks for the help tho guys.

Ya, Nero 6.6 is a good version. Still using 6.6.0.15 here. Does everything.

I'm using 6.6.1.15 and it works just fine with XP SP2 installed including all the updates up to July 2007.
