Porn industry snuggling up to Blu-ray PDF Print E-mail

Van Nuys (CA) - A major porn movie studio today announced that it will be releasing its first Blu-ray title on January 4. “Pirates”, says director by company founder Joone, will be the largest epic in the history of adult films.

About one year ago, it seems, the porn industry had decided to go with HD DVD in the high-definition age. An industry that tends to be always on the forefront of video technology, had selected the Toshiba-developed technology as its favored format, mostly due to the high production cost of Blu-ray movies. Some producers back then also complained that there was virtually no support provided by the Blu-ray camp to the porn industry.

Now it appears that this situation is changing, even if this change may still be in its infancy. The 129-minute long “Pirates” will be the first adult movie to be released on Blu-ray in early January and the reasons for that move may not be surprising, if you have been following the market development surrounding HD. Director Joone told CEPro that consumers asking for adult films that can be played on their Playstation 3 have had a major impact on the studio’s decision. While the Playstation 3 is still trailing the other two game consoles, it may very well become a decisive force to move the porn industry closer to Blu-ray – due to the fact that, because of the PS3, there are millions of Blu-ray players in the market right now, compared to hundreds of thousands of HD DVD players.

According to Joone, Blu-ray also enabled him to take advantage of advanced features such as :lol “advanced video and audio qualities. :lol

Heh, Bluray really has more potential. Since it only takes a firmware upgrade for the PS3 to use the larger capacity discs, it has future compatibility. Since HD DVD players are hardware restricted to their standard original size, the higher capacity discs are useless without the compatibility. Either that or your player.

If you found out your player wouldn't play half the movies that came out next year, would you be happy? I doubt it. They will be stuck using the lower capacity discs, while Bluray will be able to expand its content.

That's it! I'm going Blu!!! Pr0n people can't be wrong.

Not sure which PS3 firmware has to do with dual layer, But when the new standard for BD 1.1 comes out if you want to take advantage you'll need a new stand alone BD player too. As far as I know HD and BD players have no issues with dual layer disks.

Well, Sony, just released a new update to support the new BD format. Best way to go with is the PS3. The issues are not with dual layer, it is that more layers are being added.
