Still in Hard drive hell here.

I think my 250gig Seagate and 300Gig Maxtor may be working now after the maxtor gave me allot of problems getting it setup and running.

However, it's seems sometimes the system hangs or locks durring booting, or when it eventually boots up it is jerky, like froze then works then freezes. This seems to only happen when the Maxtor 300 is connected.

So it's been fine for a bit, I tried to use my Sata to USB external enclosure and nothing!! I used both hard drives in that case, tried 2 systems and neither system will see the external drives.
Just to check, I connected my IDE to USB external drive case, both systems see it present right away. So I guess now my External case was sent to me DEAD?

Make sure the enclosure's cabling is sound - swap them out and test if need be.

The USB Sata enclosure is dead. Neither Sata drive works in it, I used other Usb cables, etc... I broke the internet system here rebuilding 3 pcs over the weekend and just now got back online tonight, some.

Now both Sata drives seem to be working most the time in the Abit system when I have them connected to the system board.
I say most the time because sometimes when I boot the system with the IDE drive also connected the Sata drives are detected durring boot, sometimes not though. Seems they are detected and work fine anytime the Ide drives are not connected. That's on the system baords IDE ports or the PCI IDE card either one.
I had the wife buy a new sata cable near where she works, I'll see if I have a bad cable/loose cable. She forgot to bring it from the jeep yesterday so I won't have it till tonight.

Maybe you need to check your boot priority for the SATA and IDE drives.

I'll look at that. I know it detects my System IDE or PCI IDE Card drives before it looks for the Sata drives. Since I still boot from the IDE drives that's ok with me unless it's causing a problem.

Right now I am having to try to get this system working for the internet stuff.
It's my IWILL XP333, never really had any problems with it before! I used the ATI AIW video card and drives in the Abit, also changed the ram to 512Mb instead of 1 gig. Now I been getting random crashes, but I have it back together almost as it was now. Same video card, hard drive, etc.. and used 2 different 256MB and a 512MB ram sticks 1 at a time.

When I ran Memtest the 256 sticks each crashed with some halt error, the first time the 512MB stick did not. I ran memtest again and it crashed now.
I'm sure it's a different problem crashing it not 3 seperate sticks of ram all crashing on test 7 :s cratch

I'm sick, got a bad flue bug or something, barely able to get out of bed most the time for 2 days. Woozey and dizzy, freezing cold when I get up. So of course I'm not getting much done very fast here. It just hit me like Sunday.

A bad motherboard can cause errors in memtest even though the Ram is just fine. The chance of them all being bad is pretty low.

Get the bug out of your own system before you work on the PC bugs. :)

YA, my bug is a little better, at least I am up moving around today, just have to be careful I don't fall down.
I feel like a Weable.
You remember those! Weables wobble but they don't fall down :lol
Cept I came pretty close a few times today.

I have a problem in this system I know, but since it always ran perfect before I am sure the system board is fine, must be some other conflicts involved.
Now I cannot even use a printer on it.
I ghosted a backup of the wifes drive, I'm going to wipe it, test it, try again to install W2K or XP. Bad thing, I lost my XP pro disk while sick. It's somewhere in this house but I can't find it. Maybe in a Drive still sitting loose on a desk??
