curser problem

Which makes you want to curse. :D

Have an older p3 750 Dell lappy and no matter what mouse is used, much of the time the curser will start moving around by itself. If I try and move it, it does it's own thing. This comes and goes, but mostly stays. Other times it will move to where I want it, then it slowly glides away.

No virus's or spyware and it isn't connected to the net. Did the same think when using XP and now with win 2k fresh install.

Maybe it's possessed.

Any ideas are most welcome. :)

Have you tried disabling the built in pointing device in the bios, or unhooking it?

Do you have touchpad software installed? I recommend uninstalling it.....

Checked and it doesn't have that option. Just has where you can change it to ps2 or serial mouse, and of course pointing device. Changed it to ps2 and still the same thing. But thank you eGo :)

Lazlo, can't even use the mouse to get around now but using tab and arrow keys I got into control panel and add/remove. Nothing like that shows. And in the control panel it only has a mouse icon, no pointing device listed. thanks anyway :)

Haven't used this lappy for around a year. It all worked ok then. I'll let the battery fully charge. Though I doubt that'll do anything other than having a charged battery. :D

It's almost certainly the touchpad. I've seen this before. It's dying. Go to Device Manager and disable the built-in pointing device. You'll still be able to use an add-on mouse.

Thank you mucho FP. :) It just showed ps2 mouse and mid and ps2 mouse. Nothing about a pointing device. Disabled the mid one and now a ps2 mouse works. But no usb one. :D

At least the curser problem is fixed. Thanks again.

Now it won't connect to the net via cable. Tried various ones that work, shows connected but nothing will come up. It's an old one anyway and I was going to give it away. No biggie.
