i recently got this lcd tv as a gift from newegg...

i was planning on using it mainly as a gaming monitor for my Xbox360 and occasional DVD watching. upon setup the video is washed out no matter what i connect. i've tried connecting the 360(hdtv), dvd players(s-video) and even my dish tv connection (coaxial). i'm not really familiar with lcd tv's so maybe i'm just missing a setting here or something. the video is washed out in a way that's comparable to watching a movie clip on your desktop pc using 16 bit drivers for your vidcard.

i've messed with all the tv settings to no avail. i'm hoping i'm just missing something here so I won't have to go through the hassle of returning the tv.

Well I know some people just don't like the look of an LCD compared to a CRT or a Plasma, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. LCDs don't generally look washed out. The big complaint is a certain amount of pixelation and blooming - especially in dark scenes.

I'd reset all video control to factory default (should be a way to do that - check the manual) - it's possible that the TV got shipped to you with some video setting out of whack that you haven't found yet.

Then connect a known good DVD player to it via known good S-video cable. It shouldn't look washed out on factory defaults. If it does then I'd say there's something wrong with it. Get it replaced through NewEgg ASAP while you're within 30 days because it'll be a much bigger hassle getting it RMA'd through the manufacturer. Newegg is easy to arrange returns with. For most items you can do it online without even talking to someone. Just login into your NewEgg account.

BTW: Was it actually a re-certified TV or new retail? I love NewEgg but I'd never buy anything refurbished from them. I've had bad luck with refurbs from them (PC stuff). In general I don't like refurbs at all, with the exception of Dell refurbs. They stand behind them with retail warranties and I've had good luck with them.

thanks for the reply FP, i think i've pretty much exhausted all options in trying to figure this thing out. i set everything to default, tried different cables s-video, analog, etc. no luck!

i'm positive the tv isn't a refurbished model, musta provided the wrong link anyway it's going back to newegg tomorrow so I guess we'll just have to see.
