I have a corrupted Master File Table (NTFS)

chkdsk /r didn't fix the problem, it did a fair bit of stuff, but couldn't fix it in the end. I was running it in Windows regular model, not safe.

The demo version of GetDataBack seems to indicate the files are all there, which makes me a very happy man.

Any recommendations on good software, possibly free, to recover these files/folders?

Thanks guys!!

For recovering files I've had very good luck with iRecover
http://www.diydatarecovery.nl/irecover.htm

and GetData's Recover My Files:
http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

Both should offer trial versions that will tell whether it can see your files (I think Recover My Files' demo allows you to recover the contents of one folder). Definately try before you buy as each of these apps uses a different system.

You may also be able to repair the master file table using GRC's SpinRite, but you should recover important files first before trying to repair the drive partition since the process of repairing it may also corrupt it.

Hope this helps...
