Try using the first repair option and running chkdsk /r

Ouch. SP2 uninstalls are risky. SP2 is more like an OS upgrade. It usually isn't a good idea. That;s why I ghost or Acronis a drive before upgrading to SP2.

Try a chkdsk with sector scan either from the recovery console or a BartPE disk and then a repair install as Ego suggests.

The question will be whether to use an SP1 or SP2 disk for the repair. I'd recommend SP2.

WHY did he uninstall SP2? If it installed successfully, there is absolutely no reason to uninstall it.

might want to try Winternals??? I have had that work a few times..

tried a Bart PE.. didn't get the right copy or something.. no real tools there for me to use..

Also.. just a standard repair install of XP.. w/ a SP2 disk..

Have a laptop at the shop I am going to be doing this on in the moring.. along w/ 2 mobo/cpu/psu swaps where ppl have fried their box's..
