I've upgraded the NICs drivers in my Win2K PC and the network works great. It accesses this PC well (can access/open files), goes online well BUT when I try to access files from that PC from this one (Win98SE) through Network neighborhood, I get a message saying that I don't have access to it "no permission to access resource".
How do I enable permission from it (the Win2K PC) so that I can access files (or open them) from this PC?

Make sure the account has the EXACT name that you use to log on to the Win9x machine. Then you shouldn't have any problems.
You could also just enable the guest account, but I recommend against this as it creates a BIG securitiy hole in the OS.

Every user MUST have a user account on the Win2K computer, unless you enable the Guest account (it's disabled by default). I do not recommend enabling the Guest account unless you use a modem dialup for the Internet - and even then I'd be concerned - otherwise you're leaving yourself wide open. If you have a Dsl/Cable switch with built-in firewall, you COULD get away with using the Guest account, but I'd still feel more comfortable having a password secure account in case someone gets past the firewall - nothing is fool proof.
The account name needs to be the same as the name that you're logged on the 98 system as. For instance my wife's name is Joyce and she's logged into her 98 system as joyce. So on my Win2K system she has a user account called JOYCE.
You don't need to assign her a password unless you're REALLY paranoid about security, otherwise she'd have to log into the Win2K system each time she boots and you'd need to setup her network to prompt her for a network logon at boot - really not necessary in a peer-to-peer network.
Then you need to share your drives and give permission to the specific users. If you have an always-on connection to the internet (DSL, cable) I would recommend password protecting each individual drive for security. By default, when you create a shared drive in Win2K, it gives Everyone Full Access. You want to delete Everyone from the share and just specify the user(s) and the level of access you want to give them.
Use the same password for all drives to keep things simple. On the 98 system, the first time you access a password protected drive on the 2K system it'll prompt you for a password. Then you have the option of having 98 remember the password and you'll never get asked for it again.

This thread was with my older PC "upgraded" to Win2K and yes, it works perfectly in Win2K so far.
My new PC doing the Dual boot is another story with Win2K as I'm lacking Win2K NIC drivers for these 2 NICs, yet another thread
